restaurant tip new york: ssäm bar
This is one of David Chang’s (Momofuku) casual restaurants, ssäm bar, in the east village of New York. A small place, extremely cozy and stylish, with a typical, non-arrogant and welcoming Manhattan attitude. I went there by myself and sat on the bar – and I would do it again. The barmen and hosts are cool and friendly, the food, served in small portions, is great. Loads of small plates to choose from, David Chang plays in his Asian inspired cuisine with unusual ingredients and weird mixes of spices and oils which at the end result in dishes which just taste amazing. Good wine, good beer, and a real good ambiance.
The signature dish is of course the pork belly in a bun, which doesn’t show on the menu anymore, one just has to know it. It is quite pricy, but for NYC still ok, and I definitely will go back every time I return to New York!
